Discharge planning is designed to ensure that you once you have achieved your rehabilitation goals with us, you can return home to the supportive, safe environment you need to maintain good health. For patients with a variety of more long-term, chronic illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s, cancer, cardiac disease, kidney failure, Parkinson’s, and other conditions will discover tremendous support as part of our palliative care program.
You provide us with a time and day for their visit, and we will provide you with the accommodations you need to get them here. Both before and after surgery, we offer the personalized planning and care necessary to make the experience as easy as possible for our patients and for their families. Our social work team helps acclimate each of our patients and their families by providing counsel and education. The social workers are a wonderful resource for information and support at every stage of treatment.

Our goal is to make our patients as comfortable as possible, doing what we can to relieve stress and pain so that quality of life can be optimized. Our goal is to make our patients comfortable during and after treatment, and to give them the strength and support they need for daily living. While the average length of stay in a skilled nursing facility can be three to four weeks depending on the condition, every patient’s road to recovery is unique and based solely on the individual care plan and therapy progress. We encourage you to visit the facility ahead of time to see what items would be most appropriate. Unlike assisted living communities, our skilled nursing facilities provide basic furniture and toiletries. However, items that can help provide comfort during a patient or resident’s stay would be welcome.

Most importantly, we work tirelessly to ensure that we are doing everything we can to promote overall health and well-being. The Nylen School of Nursing provides you with undergraduate and graduate-level coursework accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing. This flexible, hands-on program unites theory and practice in the classroom, high fidelity simulation center, and expansive clinical experiences. You will be provided with excellent preparation for the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses and learning opportunities to become a caring nursing professional.

Rated as the number one retirement facility in Jamaica, Morningside is a residence for individuals who are retired and is often considered a home away from home. Under the ‘assisted living’ concept, Morningside is the best place to retire while having every need met.
Your social workers will serve as your advocates, and as a source of ongoing support and friendship for you and your loved ones as you make this important transition in your life. Whether obstacles arise with insurance, or family caretakers are struggling with treatment choices, your social workers are there to help you navigate the complexities. They are also there to cheer you on, to celebrate your successes with you, and to give you everything you need as your story here takes shape. Medicare covers room and board charges for a short stay in the nursing home when a three-night hospital stay has occurred and your doctor feels you have a skilled need requiring skilled nursing or skilled therapy.
We have a kind, compassionate team that is truly dedicated to creating an environment that will help promote the healing process. We prefer that our scheduling department schedules the appointments. You are welcome to meet us at the appointment or a nurse will call after to update you. We do have a full-time stylist who is employed by Morningside Center.

Morningside University has made a commitment to extend education beyond the confines of the classroom by providing a variety of experiential learning opportunities to students. Interact with a broad range of people at a wide variety of healthcare agencies found in Sioux City, Iowa. Since its inception Morningside has consistently generated a high satisfaction rating for our residents and their family members. In special circumstances overnight stays are approved by the Administrator.
